A laudable effort from three TAR UC students clinched them a First Runner-up (Montage category) and Silver Award (Digital Poster category) at the Internet of Things (IoT) Poster Challenge 2020 despite participating on a whim.

At the national competition organised by Malaysian Innovation Association, Yong Yu Hong, Choo Yun Bei and Ng Kheng Hui's video entry "Agricultural and Environmental Monitoring System" stood out above the competition after the results were announced on 30 November 2020.

While the trio were not aware of the competition until being persuaded by their lecturer to give it a try, their effort to learn videography from scratch and produce a worthy entry that suits the "Innovative Smart Infrastructure using IoT" theme, is commendable.

Master of Computer Science student Kheng Hui credited their "teacher" YouTube, jokingly adding: "Those tutorial videos on how to shoot, edit and presenting videos creatively really helped us a lot since all three of us did not have video shooting experience before this!"

Yu Hong from the Bachelor of Information Systems (Hons) in Enterprise Information Systems programme, said the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) made the video shooting process much more challenging.

"We had to organise our roles and ensure every member played their part despite having to conduct the video shooting separately due to CMCO restrictions. But through proper management and constant communication with each other we were able to pull it off," Yu Hong explained.

Through this competition, Yun Bei, another Bachelor of Information Systems (Hons) in Enterprise Information Systems student, realised that he and his team have a lot of room to grow.

"The learning experience at TAR UC really helped us understand the theory of the subject, and made us apply the knowledge through competitions like this. Now we understand that we still have the potential to go beyond and improve further."
