TAR UC came into the limelight once again when its student, Yap Yong Jian, a Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) in Software Engineering student won the First Runner-Up prize in the 2021 IEEE Malaysia Section Final Year Project Competition.
The competition was open to all undergraduate students who had just completed or were undergoing their Final Year Project (‘FYP’) in Year 2021. There were 22 different tracks for students to participate in. Each student could submit their FYP poster for one or maximum two tracks.
Yong Jian said that his supervisor, Assoc Prof Ts Dr Tew Yiqi encouraged him to take part in the competition. “The award is a recognition of my effort, my supervisor, Dr Tew and TAR UC,” he said.
Even though it was the first time this young lad had participated in the competition, it did not stop him from winning.
“My final year project, the Augmented Reality (‘AR’) application, is originally inspired by the Industry 4.0 manufacturing line in TAR UC campus. The application includes the juice bottle assembling processes being visualised for demonstration and manufacturing process guidance. I quite enjoyed developing my AR application and it was also a great chance to gain exposure in new fields,” he said.
Yong Jian who is now working at Tag Resources and Technologies Sdn Bhd had much to say about TAR UC education. “TAR UC has provided me with a strong foundation that enables me to learn new skills easily. Thus I can adapt quickly to any new technologies in my industry knowing that I have a strong base of knowledge to begin with. Other than that, the industrial training that I had gone through opened my mind to different views and it provided me with real-world experience in the related field.”
