54 TAR UC students from underprivileged families can now continue their studies in TAR UC without financial worry as the students have been awarded the TAR UC – Jinbodhi Bursary Award. The award presentation ceremony was held on 16 January 2019 attended by TAR UC President, Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei and committee members from Bodhi Meditation Malaysia Berhad namely Brother Xu Te, Vice Chairman of Bodhi Meditation Malaysia Berhad, Sister Fu Han, Sister Dong Cao, Brother Wen Jun and Brother Huai Chao.

From the 54 students, 36 are Bachelor degree students and 18 are studying the diploma programme in TAR UC with the majority of them from Kuala Lumpur Main Campus while a number of them hail from branch campuses in Penang, Perak and Sabah. The total donation amount disbursed to this batch of students is worth RM1 million.

In his speech to the student recipients, Brother Xu Te expressed his aspiration for the students. “I hope that the students who received the scholarship this year will continue to work hard and boldly pursue their dreams.  Only then they will be able to grow and contribute positively to society,” he said.

Prof Ir Dr Lee in his address to the award recipients encouraged them to do their best with the financial assistance granted to them. “The bursaries are donations raised from the well-meaning and selfless individuals and organisations who are concern about the welfare and future of the underprivileged groups in the society. You are very fortunate to be selected for this award which would help to lighten your financial burden. Hence, we hope that you will concentrate on your studies and do well.  Aside from showing your strong commitment and sense of responsibility to your studies and family, we also hope that you will continue this act of generosity and kindness to benefit more people,” he said.

Tan Yuon Wei who is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Communication (Hons) in Broadcasting is one of the award recipients and she shared her deepest appreciation to the donors for the financial assistance. “My father lost his ability to work about 3 months ago and as the main breadwinner in the family, this accident affected my family badly especially in finance matters. My mother had to take up tailoring orders on part-time basis to help in our daily expenses. Thus, continuing my studies in TAR UC became a huge challenge for the family. This is why, I am deeply indebted for this financial support because it not only lifts a huge burden off my family, but it also means I do not need to work part-time to support my living expenses while I study,” Yuon Wei said.

Chan Kok Fee is another award recipient who is studying the Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) in Software Systems Development and has set a number of ambitions he wishes to achieve through the financial aid he has received. “I am the eldest among 2 children in my family and my father is not in the best of health and my mother is a housewife. My younger brother who completed his secondary education is currently working as a kitchen assistant in Perak. As the elder brother, I take it upon myself to ensure my brother will also have the opportunity to pursue his tertiary education so that he too can excel in his life. Therefore, this financial aid is a great blessing for me as it truly reduces our stress and burden. The aid will also allow me to go for my Campbell University Dual Award qualification and I will work very hard to strive for the best. Once I am financially stable, I can focus on supporting my brother to pursue his tertiary education in the near future,” Kok Fee explained.
