Solid Team Bond Proves Victorious

The team from TAR UC that won the second runner-up placing in the competition.

Four TAR UC students took their strong bond as a team to a new level when they emerged as the second runner-up team in the Accounting Competency Challenge 2021, which was held virtually from 14 – 22 August 2021. The team consisted of Vincent Lui Kok Leong, Lee Sin Xuan, Lim Bee Yee and Lee Jee Yeng who are currently in their second year pursuing the Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) programme. The students have been together as a team since their diploma days where they have formed a close bond of friendship and team spirit to help each other not only in their studies but in developing important life skills.

“We participated in this competition for several reasons.  One of them is to gain more experience and strengthen our team spirit. As a team who has been together for several years, we have worked on various assignments and projects and we consistently help each other develop and hone important skills such as presentation skills. We saw this competition as a good team project where we wanted to see how much we had improved and what should each of us do to further enhance our skills and knowledge,” Vincent Lui, the team leader shared.

The competition attracted 30 teams from 16 institutions of higher learning including institutions from Thailand and participating teams were tested on their knowledge, interpersonal skill, leadership skill and other soft skills. “The syllabus and subjects we have learnt in our Diploma in Accounting and Bachelor of Commerce had helped us in the competition tremendously. Our lecturers were also very supportive in our preparation for the competition and their guidance and inputs were very useful for us,” Jee Yeng said.

Among the challenges the team faced was the unstable internet connection especially during the competition. “We were required to address various case studies and do presentations virtually which required stable internet connection throughout the sessions. I remember that I had lost connection at the beginning of the first challenge. I was fortunate to be able to join back in 5 minutes. However, this did not affect the rest of the team members as due to the consistent practice and good teamwork among us, the rest of my teammates knew what they should do while I was trying to get back online. Personally, this victory is a valuable leadership lesson I won’t forget as in leading the team, I have learnt how to organise the team, allocate tasks according to each team member’s strength and manage our time well. As a team, we have strengthened our team synergy and this experience which goes beyond education will be very useful for us in our careers and life,” Vincent Lui continued.
