In the dark moments impacted by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, TAR UC’s students have elected to shine some “light” and brighten the day for those in need; this time for the visually impaired community in Malaysia.

Between 16 August and 12 September 2021, Year 2 Diploma in Public Relations students organised and executed the Love In Generosity, Hope and Time, aka LIGHT Charity E-Campaign, a fund-raising joint effort with DID MY Academy Sdn Bhd (also known as Dialogue in the Dark Malaysia).

The campaign successfully raised RM12,963, which was handed over to Mr Stevens Chan, Founder of DID MY Academy in a simple presentation ceremony on 4 December 2021.

Held over a period of one month, the campaign featured educational and developmental sharing sessions by four inspiring individuals; Daniel Lee, a TAR UC graduate and striving Paralympic athlete; Tan Ee Beng, a TAR UC graduate visually impaired since birth; Melvin Tong, a cancer-surviving hip disarticulation amputee who successfully scaled Mount Kinabalu, and Muhammad Salim Harmanain, a lawyer with triplegic medical condition

Other key highlights from the campaign was a sign language online workshop helmed by Tan Lee Bee, a sign language intepreter for Radio Television Malaysia (‘RTM’), the “RUNderful” charity virtual run and “Tinkerbell” e-concert with special appearances by local artistes Layla Sania and Jasmine Chong.

“At TAR UC, we fervently believe academic endeavours can move Beyond Education, to encompass real-life and industry collaborations that provide the finest hands-on learning experience for students. We will strive to continue such partnerships and efforts in the future,” said Ms Dearna Kee June Chen, Dean, Faculty of Communication and Creative Industries (‘FCCI’).
