For students of TAR UC who had their convocation in 2020 and 2021 been postponed, their long wait is finally over as they have received notification to attend physical convocation ceremony. Due to the physical restrictions caused by the Covid-9 pandemic, approximately 20,000 graduates were unable to attend their initially scheduled convocation session.

Once restrictions on physical gatherings were lifted recently, TAR UC worked on organising physical convocation with strict adherence to the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (‘SOP’). The first convocation session commenced at Kuala Lumpur Main Campus on 10 November 2021 and with approximately 100 sessions to be organised, the last session will be on 10 January 2022. As for TAR UC’s five branch campuses in Penang, Perak, Johor, Pahang and Sabah, approximately 40 convocation sessions will be organised beginning with Pahang Branch which will be in early December 2021.

Every aspect in the convocation ceremony has been looked into to ensure the event can be conducted safely. Instead of congregating a large number of graduates in the convocation, a limited number of graduates were allowed per session to enable physical distancing. The convocation proceedings are also simplified to eliminate any physical contact. In compliance with the SOPs mandated by the National Security Council, all the attendees at the convocation sessions are required to wear face masks at all times, check in using MySejahtera app and present their vaccination certificate before being allowed entry. As each graduate is only allowed to bring two guests for the ceremony, the convocation session is also broadcasted live on TAR UC’s official YouTube channel so that other family members and friends can also witness their loved one receiving the scroll.

Although there were extra precautions put in place especially for the convocation ceremony, the vast campus ground was an air of festivity and celebration. Graduates were seen smiling with glee after receiving graduation bouquets and gifts from their loved ones and many took the opportunity to capture memorable shots with their families around the campus.

One of the main highlights of the convocation sessions is the awarding of the President’s Award. The award is presented to the student who has attained the best performance in the Bachelor’s Degree of the graduating year session. The student who wins the award has the most outstanding performance in terms of academic performance, co-curricular achievements and has best manifested the aims and objectives of TAR UC. For this round, Marcus Tan Yen Wai who graduated with the Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering with Honours was named as the recipient of the President’s Award where he also received a medal and certificate of commendation.
