Biodata

Dr Bong Fwee Leong is currently a Senior Lecturer in Department of Engineering and Built Environment, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC) Penang. He received the Degree in Electrical Engineering from The Engineering Council of United Kingdom, M. Eng. (Telecommunications) from Multimedia University of Malaysia, and PhD in Engineering from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman. These academic qualifications were obtained via part time basis in parallel with his career development.

Dr. Bong has accomplished many research projects in Novel miniaturization techniques in passive UHF RFID tag antenna design. Many of his research outcomes have been published in high impact scholarly/Q1 international journals. Dr Bong has co-authored many other technical papers in international journals as well. Apart from this, he is also serving as a volunteer reviewer for International Journal of Antennas and propagation, IEEE Transactions on Antennas and propagation and IET Electronics Letters.

Prior to this, he has been enjoying over 24 years of extensive practical experiences in both electronic testing and design, research & development of RF devices. Dr. Bong was the pioneer RF Antenna Designer for Smartrac Malaysia (M) and he was involved in setting up the RF lab facility in Kulim, Malaysia. Besides RF designing, Dr. Bong was the global technical support for any RF technical related issues within the Smartrac group. 

Because of his passion for knowledge sharing, he has desired to take up the lecturing job at TARUC, where this is his dream since he was young.

Achievements:

 

  1. European Patent: A Flexible Mountable L-Shaped RFID Tag Antenna (EP3564860A1).
  2. Successful designing one of the world’s thinnest UHF tag for difficult surfaces, which have been officially launched at the Cartes Secure Connexion 2014 tradeshow in Paris.
  3. Successful introducing multiple novel tag miniaturization techniques to the RFID community. These innovative ideas have been published in the reputable international journal (IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation).
  4. Successful designing different sizes of tags with their performances and qualities certified by the Auburn University RFID Lab in the United States.
  5. In August 2018, successful introducing the first and smallest tag antenna, Miniweb Ucode8 ETSI that fulfilling the most stringent Category-I tag performance requirements in the tag performance certification test in the Auburn University RFID Lab in the United States.
