11 - 12 December 2021 - Being one of the oldest institutions of higher education with more than 210,000 students having passed through its doors since its establishment in 1969 is undeniably the most sought-after achievement that all educational institutions are looking for. With the pride of offering more than 50 years of quality and affordable education, TAR UC Perak Branch Campus successfully held its most awaited event - the physical convocation after over two years of postponement due to the outbreak of COVID-19 across the globe.

1058 graduates were conferred with their diplomas and degrees in the disciplines of Social Science, Humanities, Accountancy, Finance, Business, Communication, Creative Industries, Computing and Information Technology.

Graced by the presence of Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Chairman of the TAR UC Board of Governors and Professor IR Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC, the event is certainly a joyous occasion celebrated by all the UC stakeholders who witnessed the whole new normalcy in celebrating the graduation.

Delivering his captivating convocation address, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai lauded all the graduates for marking the pinnacle of their academic journey despite the challenging unprecedented pandemic. “This ability to adapt and thrive under extraordinary circumstances truly demonstrates the essence of ‘Beyond Education which TAR UC instils in our graduates,” he said. He also drew the attendees’ attention to the UC’s latest transformation progress driven for the betterment of the UC and the wider community.

In a different session, Professor IR Dr Lee Sze Wei also commended his congratulations to the graduates for their unwavering resilience and grit during the traumatic period. “The Covid-19 has turned the world upside down and altered our way of life drastically. But despite all that, there can be a silver lining. We learn how to manage the difficulties that we encounter and hardships that we face,” he said. He also urged them to adopt a new mindset in forging their career and go Beyond Education seamlessly and confidently with the knowledge gained from UC.

As a part of the convocation ceremony, a special academic honour was handed to 39 meritorious students for their academic excellence.

Leong Pei Xiang and Yap Jheng Sheng who graduated with Bachelor of Tourism Management (Honours) Event Management said that achieving the award was pre-planned to get them focussed on their study. However, for Edna Wee Xiu Jin, the unplanned special award was her lifetime biggest academic achievement, besides the Bachelor of Hospitality and Catering Management (Honours) conferred.

The same recognition had also thrilled two Diploma in Event Management graduates. Teh Jia Jun and Kang Wei, said that the award was beyond their expectations. Both agreed that discipline set in managing time and prioritising the importance are the keys to their success.
