About SEAITE

1st Southeast Asia Institute for Transformational Entrepreneurship (SEAITE) Symposium 2018

Embracing Entrepreneurship for Education 4.0

A need exists for renewed thinking on how enterprise and entrepreneurship can support sustainable economic growth in South East Asia. The aim of this first SEAITE Symposium is to address this key challenge: how might entrepreneurship education support socio‐economic development in the 4.0 era?

Enterprise and entrepreneurship are prominent in the education strategies of many governments, with the aim of producing graduates with the skills needed to engage with the workplaces of the future, either as employees or employers. If 4.0 heralds a new era of connectivity between computers and ’things’ then we must also consider the ways in which it will might impact upon the design and delivery of education; not just the content of education but also how education may be experienced in the 4.0 world.

The Symposium takes an open entrepreneurial laboratory approach. Through a combination of expert input and free and open debate, it aims to create contextualized, cutting edge, high impact and affordable transformational solutions for the delivery of entrepreneurship education 4.0 in South East Asia.

Why a Symposium?
In keeping with the ethos of SEAITE, the aim of the Symposium is to engage as many people as possible in the discussion. The event has been structured to allow for expert input on a range of broad areas, followed by an equal period of discussion on the topics presented and any other that emerge during the conversations.

Who should attend?
The event might appeal in the first instance to academics and academic leaders interested in how 4.0 might impact upon the nature, scope and content of education program. Entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial mindset are relevant to all disciplines—not just business schools as is sometimes presumed. Outside of academia, policymakers, business leaders (public sector and private), social entrepreneurs, investors and philanthropists may all have an interest and a contribution to make to the discussion.

What is a Design Thinking Methodology?
Design thinking is a human‐centered approach to innovation. It is a process that aims to integrate the needs of people, with what is technologically feasible and economically viable. It is also described as a solutions based approach to solving complex problems.

The event has been structured around three main themes and as we move from theme to theme, the aim is to focus more on the main issues that emerge. The process will broadly follow the five main stages of the design thinking process: empathize, define, idea, prototype and test. It is fun and a little messy, but its effective.
