Continuous Generosity, Empowering Students With Education

TAR UMT is grateful for the Bodhi Meditation Charity Foundation’s (BMCF) continuous commitment to providing financial support for TAR UMT students. Following the Deed of Donation Signing Ceremony held on 6 October 2023, this would be the seventh year of the foundation’s financial support for TAR UMT students.

The mock cheque of RM600,000 was presented by Teacher Ling Shan and Teacher Fu Han of BMCF to Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UMT.  The funds will be channelled towards the TAR UMT-JINBODHI Bursary, which is a form of donation, and beneficiaries are not required to pay back the amount they have received from this bursary. Ever since the establishment of the bursary in October 2017, a total of RM3.25 million in financial aid has been awarded to a total of 179 students.

Besides the cheque presentation, several existing bursary recipients also attended the event. Among them was Shivasanghary, who is pursuing her diploma. “Although I come from a challenging background as I only have my mother, who supports me and my two siblings, I still aspire to study logistics and supply chain management. I thought the Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Negara (PTPTN) would be sufficient to allow me to pursue this programme. However, I was still struggling financially due to other expenses, and despite working multiple part-time jobs, I still could not sustain myself financially. This is why I am so grateful for the TAR UMT-JINBODHI Bursary, where I can study without financial stress. This gives me hope to envision a brighter future for myself and my family. Without this support, I wouldn't be here to share my story," she shared.

Another recipient of the financial aid, Ng Zhia Yi, is pursuing her bachelor's degree. “I am from a single-parent family, as my mother left the family when I was six. My relatives raised me because my father was irresponsible, and we faced financial struggles to support my university education. I considered giving up to ease the financial burden, but then the TAR UMT-JINBODHI Bursary came to the rescue. Thanks to the bursary, I can focus on my studies without financial worries, making my university education possible,” she said.

In addition to the bursary, BMCF has also extended additional financial support of RM400,000 for the first time to TAR UMT for the University’s facility upgrades and maintenance.
