Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (‘TAR UC’) marks a new height in its illustrious 53 years of history as its status as a University College has been upgraded to a full-fledged University status. With this latest upgrade, TAR UC is now known as Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology or in short TAR UMT. The University will be known as 东姑阿都拉曼管理及工艺大学 or in short 拉曼理工大学, in Chinese and Universiti Pengurusan dan Teknologi Tunku Abdul Rahman in Bahasa Malaysia. The official announcement of the institution’s upgrade was made by YB Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of TARC Education Foundation who is also the Minister of Transport, on 12 April 2022.

The new name reflects the institution’s relentless focus on delivering the best management and technology education since its inception in 1969 as TAR College and TAR UC. The upgrading of status to a university is the culmination of the hard work and excellent track record over the past 5 decades as well as a collective nod from stakeholders for TAR UMT’s top-notch education.

“TAR UMT aims to become a renowned and prestigious talent development hub that contributes significantly to the growth of the industries and socio-economic well-being of the communities in Malaysia and ASEAN. A 10-year Roadmap from 2021 to 2030 has been crafted outlining the strategies the institution will embark on to achieve its goal of becoming a renowned Hub for Developing Future-proof Talents in Malaysia and this region. More importantly, TAR UMT will continue the legacy of TAR College and TAR UC in providing quality education of international standards to Malaysians at an affordable fee. It will continue to serve the wider community through a wide spectrum of activities. It wants to be a University for the people regardless of race, class and creed,” said YB Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee in his announcement.

In conjunction with this upgrading, TAR UMT organised a logo design competition as a way to celebrate this momentous occasion and also to give the opportunity to talented designers to contribute their creativity in designing a logo they see fit to represent TAR UMT and its philosophy of Beyond Education.

The logo design competition was open to all interested individuals in Malaysia and abroad. The design that is adjudged to be the best was entitled to win the Grand Prize amounting to RM10,000 followed by RM5,000 for the second-place winner and RM2,000 for the third-place winner respectively. There were also ten Consolation Prizes worth RM500 each and a People’s Choice Award of RM1,000 for the artwork which garnered the most ‘LIKES’ on the institution’s official Facebook page.

All the logo designs submitted were judged based on the originality of the design, visual appeal which reflected the goals, objectives & aspirations of the University, adherence to the logo design brief and guidelines and versatility of the design which is adaptable onto any form.
