Studies and Work not a Deterrent from Competitive Success

Studying and working at the same time did not stop Willi from trying to gain extra experience by participating in the FPAMFLY 2020 Personal Finance Video Competition.

The challenges of having to finish tertiary education and working at the same time did not deter young Sim Willi from making a name for himself in the competitive scene.

The Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) student took the initiative to participate in the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia Financial Literacy Year (FPAMFLY) 2020 Personal Finance Video Competition, where he was required to submit a motivating personal financial related video.

Despite having to face off against not just other tertiary students but also working professionals in the finance industry, Willi’s entry was adjudged one of the three winners announced by FPAM on 23 February 2020.

“At first I did not expect to win because I know the competition is very tough, but it was a really nice surprise to be named as one of the winners.

“With my studies and work, I did not have much time left to create the video for this competition, but I was able to pull through thanks to the motivational support from my friends and my lecturers who gave me a lot of advice in preparing the video,” said Willi.

On the reason why he decided to further his studies at TAR UC, Willi said: “TAR UC gives a strong sense of campus life, where students can get involved in countless activities to learn skills that we can't learn in the classroom such as presentation and critical thinking skills. The academic staff are all very supportive and always motivate me to enrich my student life here.

“I encourage others to give TAR UC a try, as I believe that everything I learned here and will learn here will last a lifetime.”
