Lee Yong Heng and Tey Yi You, two outstanding A Level students from TAR UMT, have conquered the global examination by emerging as Top in Malaysia for Mathematics and Top in the World for Biology, respectively. Having previously emerged as top scorers in the same subjects at the AS level examination, their achievement in the A Level examination led them to be recipients of the ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship to pursue their degree at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. Yong Heng will be pursuing a Computing degree in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Society, while Yi You will be studying an Engineering degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.
After completing her secondary education at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) St Mary, Yong Heng wanted to further her studies overseas. “I felt discouraged after receiving no overseas study offers following my SPM results. Despite my initial hesitance, my mother insisted on exploring other options, and this led me to TAR UMT. I am thankful to my mother for not giving up on my dreams and also to TAR UMT for paving the way for me to achieve them. My lecturers are fully committed to helping me prepare my best for the examination. Without them, it would have been a struggle for me. I am so grateful to my lecturers at TAR UMT,” she expressed.

Meanwhile, Yi You, a former student of SMK Darul Ehsan, has consistently demonstrated hard work and focus throughout her Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering studies. “I approached my examinations with a disciplined mindset, choosing to focus entirely on my preparation rather than being distracted by the pressure of maintaining my previous AS Level success. My lecturers at TAR UMT are transformative, as their professionalism and patient guidance made them the best mentors to consult whenever I faced academic challenges,” she detailed.
Yi You’s drive to succeed is deeply rooted in the inspiration she draws from her family, whom she views as role models for excellence in their respective fields. Supported by both her family and friends, she looks forward to her next chapter in Singapore, where she aims to excel further and live life to the fullest by exploring new interests.
Both students serve as a testament to the quality of education at TAR UMT, proving that consistent effort and a supportive environment can make international academic dreams a reality.
