On 23 March 2023, five Bachelor of Finance and Investment (Hons) students emerged as the 2nd runner-up team in the Financial Industry Professional Challenge (FIPC) 2023.

The competition organised by University Malaya saw a total of eight teams of five competing for the top prize. The competition's scope covered various aspects of the financial industry, including assessments of mergers and acquisitions, equity research, and financial consulting.

Despite the daunting tasks ahead, the TAR UMT team of Li Biwen, Chin Kai Wen, Poon Cheng Jun, Tho Wai Keong and Yap Yi Wen, tackled the challenges presented with grit and determination.

Kai Wen said: "The process of completing the assessment was quite stressful, as we had very limited time, but thankfully, with the synergy and effort we had put in, we managed to successfully complete all the assessments and presentations."

"We had to complete three assessments in a short time, and presenting our research in front of everyone and answering questions from judges were very challenging as we didn't know if our answers were correct,” added Cheng Jun.

Despite these challenges, the team overcame the odds to finish as the 2nd runner-ups, an achievement that Biwen believes is a recognition of their hard work. “It feels like all the work we did, all the days and nights we spent preparing, and all the moments we almost gave up, have finally led to a good ending,” exclaimed Biwen.

Wai Keong added: "I never imagined we could win at the beginning. But, I must say I am grateful and thankful for my teammates and lecturers for all their guidance to prepare us for this competition."
