5 TAR UC Students Expand Their Horizon in China

In pursuit of knowledge and a means to expand their horizons, five TAR UC graduates will be continuing their postgraduate studies in China. 

Tan Mean Shyen, Yuriko Tan Xin Yun, Leong Wen Jun and Lai Sei Wai, graduates from the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business ('FAFB') will be enrolling into the Central University of Finance and Economics ('CUFE'), Beijing while Chew Mon Hian, a graduate from the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology ('FOCS') will be entering the University of Jinan ('UJN'), located in the Shandong Province.

Mean Shyen, who will be pursuing her Masters in Investment at CUFE under the One Belt One Road Scholarship shared during an interview that apart from starting her studies, she is looking forward to experiencing Beijing's vibrant lifestyle and rich culture.

"I look forward to immersing myself into the diverse culture and environment in Beijing, not to mention the variety of cuisine available there!" she said. "In the future I would like to work as a consultant in my related field of study and I feel that this postgraduate programme will help equip me with adequate amount of knowledge and exposure to compete in the market." 

Likewise, Yuriko and Sei Wai, who have also been awarded the One Belt One Road Scholarship and Wen Jun who was awarded the Chinese Council Scholarship, will be pursuing their Masters in Finance at CUFE as they believe that it will help them develop the necessary practical skills that are sought after in the industry.

"Apart from academic recognition, a Master's degree also provides a platform for professional training, giving me specialised knowledge and practical skills to succeed in this profession," shared Sei Wai.

When asked what prompted him to pursue his postgraduate studies, Wen Jun shared that it was one of his lecturers who encouraged him to do so.  " For me, that was the initial spark that led up to many things that eventually brought me to where I am today," he said. "I hope that I will be better equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge that will help build my future career."

On the other hand, Chew Mon Hian expressed his enthusiasm in enrolling as a Master candidate in the Computer Science and Technology programme at UJN under the UJN President Scholarship. "It is a great opportunity for me to gain exposure overseas and learn new technologies available abroad. Also, the programmes offered by UJN are futuristic."

"TAR UC's holistic education enables us to build a solid foundation to further our studies," he added.
