Following the announcement of the Malaysian Budget 2024 on 13 October 2023, TAR UMT’s Accounting Society of the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business (FAFB) organised a special talk titled 2024 Tax Budget and Me on 23 November 2023. The talk aimed to highlight and elucidate the new tax provisions and changes that have been introduced in the Malaysian Budget 2024 and how it affects the people.
More than 150 students, with event sponsors and esteemed industry partners, attended the event. The convergence of academia and industry players at the event has provided a valuable platform to foster a rich and dynamic learning environment, allowing students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the taxation complexities inherent in the Malaysian Budget 2024. The event is also part of TAR UMT’s mission to provide students with a learning experience beyond the boundaries of a classroom and traditional teaching.

The panel of speakers hailed from the University’s valued industry partners namely KPMG Malaysia, Deloitte Malaysia and Crowe Malaysia PLT, who provided valuable insights into the main provisions of the Malaysian Budget 2024 covering corporate taxation, personal taxation and tax disputes. The insightful presentations and discussions by the speakers delved into the evolving landscape of corporate taxation addressing key elements such as tax incentives, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives, e-invoicing, and tax audits as well as investigations which emphasised the importance of applying the correct tax rules and paying the correct taxes.
