What is a strong Beyond Education story?

It is a tale not limited to only good academic success but also narrates the ability of TARCians to add value within their communities. And Christine Choo Wan Teng is a TARCian with a compelling Beyond Education story.

The inspiring story of Christine who graduated with a Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) in Internet Technology was recently brought to light when she was named one of the Top 10 Young Talent Award recipients at the Monstar Awards 2022, held on 26 November 2022. Monstar Awards aim to discover and recognise young talents whose work, story or talent(s) influence, innovate and inspire the people and their community. Every year, a panel of esteemed judges ranging from influential leaders in the industries, sports and celebrity icons are involved in the judging process. Christine, who is currently working as a Software Developer hit the bullseye with her essay titled “Young Active Citizen”, where she details the various organisations she is involved in and how she hopes to inspire more youths to be active.

“I love working with people, especially youths and I am a firm believer in United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). I am very active in the organisations and bodies I am involved in, where my passion is working together towards innovative solutions, especially for social, cultural or environmental issues. I also enjoy the drive to source for opportunities to implement the SDG goals where among them is exploring business opportunities that have positive impacts within the community and society,” she explained.

This once shy and quiet girl attributed her inspiring transformation to her student days at TAR UMT. “It was during my study years at TAR UMT that I discovered and strengthened my skills and talents. The experience helped me understand myself better, especially what I am passionate about and as a result, I involved myself in several activities that serve the community. Studying at TAR UMT also pushed me to sharpen my interpersonal skills, allowing me to expand my network of friends and peers locally and internationally. I also must highlight that I developed my leadership skill during my study years at TAR UMT and this skill has enabled me to be part of various inspiring works that are aligned with my goals in life,” Christine shared.
