On 26 March 2026, Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) in Information Security students showcased their talent on the international stage at the 5th China Mobile ‘Wutong Cup’ Digital Intelligence Innovation Competition (National Finals Division). The finals were held on-site at South China University of Technology in Guangzhou, China.

Team 404 achieved an impressive Second Runner-up placing in the highly competitive AI + Security Track.

The team stood out among international competitors with their innovative project, the ‘Wutong Defense Console’. The system is a multi-layered, AI-driven telecom fraud prevention solution designed to safeguard vulnerable groups, particularly university students, from increasingly sophisticated cybercrime syndicates.

Organised by China Mobile Hong Kong Limited, the ‘Wutong Cup’ is a premier international technology competition that challenges top talents to leverage artificial intelligence and big data in addressing critical real-world industry challenges.

The competition aims to push the boundaries of digital security while offering participants valuable hands-on experience in designing enterprise-level, closed-loop defence systems. For the TAR UMT team, the experience proved invaluable in bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world application.
