While many of their peers had left for their semester break, members of TAR UC Community Sociology (‘CS’) were busy making the necessary preparations to embark on their annual community outreach initiative at rural primary schools. CS’s annual community outreach initiative organises 3-day 2-night camps for primary school children in rural areas, exposing the school children to future educational and career options. The 24th community outreach initiative was officially launched on 26 September 2019 with the students brimming with eagerness to immerse in it.

Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Chairman of Board of Governors of TAR UC, Datuk Seri Yew Teong Look, Member of the Board of Trustees of TARC Education Foundation and Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC were among those present during the launch.

In his speech, Dato’ Sri Liow commended the CS members for their philanthropic work. “Through studies, we are able to enhance our knowledge. But it is through humanitarian efforts that we are able to build good character,” he said.
“Apart from serving the community, community sociology activities help develop soft skills such as teamwork, time management, people management, problem-solving and more. All of these are the qualities of a good leader.”

Prof Ir Dr Lee also praised the students for their enthusiasm and dedication. “It is heartwarming to see so many of our students cultivating a humanitarian spirit through participation in meaningful activities such as these.”

Sharing his personal experience as the President of CS, Tung Qin Zheng, a Year 2 Diploma in Quantity Surveying student recalled the ups and downs they encountered during the planning stages.

“I am truly grateful that each of you has taken the time to participate in this meaningful project,” he said. “Throughout the planning stages we faced many obstacles and frustrations. But what matters most is that we were able to put aside our differences and overcome these challenges together, further strengthening our bond!”

CS members from all TAR UC branches will be holding community outreach camps at primary schools in rural areas across Malaysia for the remainder of the semester break until 11 October 2019.
