Freshmen start new journey in TAR UC

Freshmen of 2016 filled the University College Hall of TAR UC with their red shirts as they gathered to begin their journey in TAR UC. The freshmen assembled for the Mass Call ceremony which was held on 23 May 2016 where they were given a warm welcome before being briefed by the Department of Students Affairs.

In order to ease the jitters, the emcees cracked some hilarious jokes and shared some useful tips on how to have a fulfilling campus life with the students. Videos on the various interesting activities for the freshmen were also shown as the emcees explained in detailed on each activity such as Society Day, Talentime Nite, Orientation Odyssey Nite and the Library Induction Programme.

Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR UC, in his welcoming speech shared some valuable insights about TAR UC to the freshmen: “At TAR UC, we continuously seek to enhance the quality of our education and strengthen our programmes with three main qualities which are industry-relevant, professionally driven and entrepreneurship-focused. Our aim is not only to provide quality education, but we are also focused to prepare you well for future challenges in today’s globalised economy”. Besides this, he also advised the students to make full use of their time in TAR UC to experience learning outside of the classroom. “The activities are to help you develop the essential soft skills such as leadership skill, communication and interpersonal skills. All these skills are seen as important skills by employers,” he added. The students were then led by Ng Hun Jie, President of the Student Representative Council to recite the student oath.

Amrit Kaur who will be pursuing her Foundation in Science was excited to share her reason to study in TAR UC. “For me, TAR UC is the best place to do my foundation because my sister was also a student of TAR UC. Seeing how successful she is now, I am very convinced that TAR UC truly delivers quality education,” she said.

Foo Hui Fang from the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business was confident of her decision to study in TAR UC as she said: “TAR UC is well recognised especially among employers and there can only be one reason to explain this. It is TAR UC’s consistent track record in producing high calibre and skilful students. And this is why I choose to study in TAR UC. I am truly looking forward to my study life here as I am not only looking at scoring good grades but I would also like to actively participate in a number of clubs and societies to ensure I have a balanced campus lifestyle”.

Meanwhile freshmen from the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment namely Nahabala Balakrishnan and Syed Musa Bin Wan Suleiman came to TAR UC after receiving recommendations from their families. “My father strongly advised me to study in TAR UC as he would like me to take over his business once I graduate,” explained Nahabala who will be pursuing his Diploma in Technology (Quantity Surveying).
