TAR UC's team of students from the Bachelor of Finance and Investment (Hons), namely, Yuan Ting Jing, Seow Chun Pin and Kok Soong Yang had clinched the Champion title in the PNB 1Malaysia Investment Quiz Competition held on 23 – 25 October 2016. This is the third time that TAR UC has been crowned the Champion for this competition. The team  outperformed others  to be one of the top 4 teams after the semi-final and then they went on to win the top prize at the final.

The competition's objective was to educate university students on financial management. This year's quiz was the 16th edition of the competition with 30 universities including TAR UC participating in it.

There were three parts to the competition, the preliminary round consisted of a multiple-choice test that contained questions on financial management. Then, at the semi-final, 8 different events took place. They were an investment quiz, crossword puzzle, logo puzzle, anagram, word pyramid, IQ test, sudoku and product matching, all of which were related to finance. Finally, the top 4 teams would undergo three rounds of quizzes on stage. TAR UC team bested the teams from University of Malaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia and the University of Nottingham Malaysia to win the Champion prize.

Yuan Ting Jing, who has won top prizes in a number of investment competitions before, spoke highly of his fellow teammates. "We form a very good bond. We have our individual strengths that we use to our advantage and we complement each other."

The other team member, Seow Chun Pin, felt that they had won due to a few reasons. "We were relaxed during the competition, confident, thought positively, prepared well and put in a lot of hard work for the competition," he said.

Kok Soong Yang, on the other hand, had some advice for those who would like to participate in such a competition. "Instead of memorising, make an effort to understand the concept because the questions given will come in different forms."

Finally, the mentor and lecturer, Mr Pua Tong Seng, mentioned how he prepared them for the competition. "I equipped them with updates on the financial market, the changes in the current financial market, briefed them on financial instruments and newly-developed calculations and prepared them psychologically and mentally," he explained.
