Held for the second time with the objective of nurturing student's public speaking skills, TAR UC Inter-Campus Public Speaking Competition was successfully held on 24 October 2016. The competition was organised by the Centre for Nation Building and Languages ('CNBL') and had a total of 5 students who successfully made their way to the finals which was held at the Auditorium in the Kuala Lumpur Main Campus. The student finalists were from Kuala Lumpur Main Campus as well as Penang, Perak and Johor branch campuses.
Ms Kho Sok Kee, Vice President of TAR UC was present to officially launch the competition. In her welcoming speech, Ms Kho highlighted the importance of this competition as she said: "The inter-campus public speaking competition is very significant for TAR UC because besides providing an avenue for students to sharpen their public speaking skills, the competition also has the involvement of TAR UC students not only from the Kuala Lumpur Main Campus but also from other branch campuses as well." She also stressed the importance of public speaking in her speech as she explained: "Public speaking is important as it enhances one's communication skills, helps to increase self-confidence significantly and it enhances one's ability to influence others. All these traits are very important to become an effective leader."
Each finalist was given a time limit of 5 minutes to present their speech based on the competition theme, 'The Hands of the Future'. Siddhatta Chong Carl Chun, a Diploma in Interactive Software Technology student from Kuala Lumpur Main Campus emerged as the Champion, followed by Phang Sing Yee, another student from Kuala Lumpur Main Campus who is pursuing her Bachelor of Public Relations (Hons). Adrian Ong from Perak Branch Campus who is studying the Diploma in Mass Communication (Public Relations) came in third. Each of them received a trophy and gift vouchers.
Besides this, the prize giving ceremony for the Banner Design Competition 2016 was also held. The competition was held in conjunction with the Speak English Campaign organised by CNBL. Chong Kah Yee, a Diploma in Graphic Design student emerged as the Champion followed by Lu Choi Ghor and Vanessa Yeoh Ee Xin, both Diploma in Graphic Design students who won the 1st Runner-up and 2nd Runner-up placings respectively. Meanwhile Loh Kai Xuan who is studying the Bachelor in Computer Science (Hons) Software Engineering won the People's Choice Award.
