Team Cincai from TAR UMT won the top spot, after competing with 20 other teams at the Cyber Security Challenge in conjunction with the 4th International Innovation, Technology and Research Exhibition and Conference 2023 (ITREXC 2023) on 19 October 2023. Choo Chi Siang, Ong Sheng He and Wang Teng Zheng, pursuing the Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) in Information Security won a cash prize of RM2,500.
The competition is in the form of Jeopardy-styled Capture The Flag (CTF) with challenges category such as Web, Boot2Root, Windows Forensic, Linux Forensic, Reverse, Network, Pwn and Misc. The students tackled these complex challenges with strong determination and showcased their proficiency in various areas of cybersecurity.
Chi Siang who is the team leader, shared that he started participating in CTF competitions while he was still studying his Diploma at TAR UMT. “I must thank my senior, Mr Wong Yik Han, whom I have known since 2019. Yik Han has been a great support for my teammates and I in the many CTF competitions we have participated in at university and national levels throughout the years. And after winning the Champion title in this competition, my teammate Teng Zheng and myself will go on to compete at the ASEAN level in November 2023 together with two other students from local universities as a team, representing Malaysia,” he explained.
