After a two-year hiatus, the TARCian Alumni Association (‘TAA’) Iftar cum TAR UC Staff Appreciation Dinner made a comeback much to the joy and anticipation of the TARCian community. Held at Top Glove Tower on 22 April 2022, it was the first time the dinner was held during the holy month of Ramadhan.

“This dinner is an indication of a good start to 2022,” expressed Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC, during his speech. “On behalf of TAR UC staff, I would like to thank TAA for the thoughtful gesture to organise this dinner during the Ramadhan month where we can create more good memories as a team.”

He also took the opportunity to thank the alumni present for the support and contribution they have given throughout the years. “Going forward there will be even more developments in store for the institution. With the recent announcement of our upgrading to Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology or TARUMT, it is important for this institution to continue receiving support from its alumni.”

In his keynote address, the Guest of Honour, Tan Sri Dato’ Soh Thian Lai, President of the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers, reminisced his student days at the then TAR College and his pride as an “old boy” to see alma mater achieving university status.

“TAR College provided me with the opportunity to pursue my tertiary education, and it is because of this I am where I am in life today. Although it has been over 40 years since I was a student, I still remember the phrase ``Once a TARCian, Always a TARCian”,he said.

The Chairman of the newly founded TAR UC Alumni Council, Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy, also took the opportunity to express his wish to bring together all TARC and TAR UC alumni associations. “I applaud TAA for always thinking of the student’s welfare and their consideration to plan events such as this. I look forward to the cooperation and engagement with the various alumni associations to support our alma mater, as we embark on a new chapter as TARUMT.”

The dinner was a night of merriment which provided the TARCian community the opportunity to get together, renew friendships and strengthen the spirit of camaraderie. Throughout the night, highly talented TAR UC students and alumni showcased a myriad of talents as they delivered captivating performances.

TAA also took the opportunity to present to Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, a mock cheque for the funds raised through the TARCian Unity Charity Golf Friendly Match, which raised RM144,000. He also received mock cheques on behalf of TAR UC students, who were awarded scholarships under the TAA Educational & Development Fund, namely the TAR UC -  TAA Scholarship, the TAR UC - TAA Scholarship (TOP GLOVE), the TAR UC - Eco-Shop Scholarship and the TAR UC - MSEF Scholarship.

At the end of the dinner, the iconic “La Man Song” was played to wrap up the event on a high note.
