A name to be reckoned with when it comes to the Cambridge GCE A level examination in Malaysia, the Centre for Pre-University Studies (‘CPUS’) of TAR University College has once again excelled. The centre recently feted its High Achievers for the A Level and AS Level examinations during the High Achievers Certificate Presentation Ceremony, which was held on 2 March 2016 at the University College hall. Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR University College, was present to give away the awards and certificates to the high achievers.

“TAR University College’s A Level Programme is one of the largest in the country, with a renowned reputation of producing large number of high achievers at each examination session. What’s more, this A Level programme has consistently produced high achievers to receive the coveted Cambridge Outstanding Learner Awards for Top Placing in Malaysia and the world for Economics, Accounting, Mathematics and Further Mathematics, Business Studies, General Paper and Chinese Language,” Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok explained in his welcoming address. Datuk Dr Tan also highlighted that in the last 5 years, TAR University College had awarded Merit Scholarships to a total of 1,942 A Level students, thus providing deserving students the opportunity to advance their education.

Datuk Dr Tan then proceeded to present the awards and certificates to the high achievers. For A Level, 11 students scored the perfect score of 4’A*’s and the pass percentage was 93.9% with 25.0% of this cohort, equivalent to 68 students scored excellent results of at least AAB. The presentation of the Best Overall Performance Award was the highlight of the ceremony. For A Level (Arts), Ong Jia Ming who scored 3’A*’s 1’A’ won the title while Lim Kar Heng who scored 4’A*’s was top for A Level (Science). Kar Heng also won the CPUS Top Achievement Cup. “My preparation for this exam included many group discussions with my classmates as I preferred to study in a group as compared to studying alone. Besides that, the extensive reading resources in the library were very helpful for my revision,” Kar Heng shared.  Jia Ming was full of praise for his lecturers as he explained: “I did not learn accounting in secondary school, thus, having achieved this result is a huge success for me, all thanks to my lecturers’ dedication and commitment in ensuring I really understood what was being taught in classes”.
