The high achievers from TAR UMT together with their lecturers, celebrating their success at the awards ceremony.
TAR UMT students have secured commendable victories in the prestigious WorldSkills Malaysia University Challenge 2023 (WSMUC 2023), which was organised by University Kuala Lumpur and WorldSkills Malaysia (Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran), marking their exceptional performance in both Cybersecurity and Mobile Application Development categories respectively from 2 October 2023 to 3 October 2023.
The announcement of the winners of the WSMUC 2023 was made during the Majlis Anugerah Tangan Emas Perdana Menteri & Anugerah Tokoh Mahir 2023 on 23 November 2023 at Shah Alam Convention Centre, which was graced by Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Anwar Bin Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Wang Teng Zheng and Ong Sheng He, who are currently enrolled in TAR UMT’s Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) in Information Security, garnered a Pingat Gangsa and Sijil Kecemerlangan respectively under the Cybersecurity category of WSMUC 2023. The participants of the competition have to demonstrate in-depth understanding and apply technical skills to solve challenges related to enumeration, web-based attacks, database attacks, Windows attacks, root access, cryptography, steganography, drive-by-download malware, reverse engineering and forensics.
Lim Zhi Heng, a Diploma in Information Technology student from Perak Branch clinched a Pingat Perak (Silver Medal) under the Mobile Application Development Category of WSMUC 2023. Additionally, three other students from the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FOCS) were awarded the Sijil Kecemerlangan in the Mobile Application Development category. The participants were required to develop a mobile application based on given requirements and to present their final mobile application to judges within the two days of the competition.

Towards the end of the ceremony, recognition and appreciation by Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK) was given to two TAR UMT students (Chan Yung Her and Wong Wai Zhong from Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours), Kuala Lumpur Campus) who had participated and were awarded the Medallion of Excellence under the Internet of Things (IoT) category in the WorldSkills ASEAN Singapore 2023 which was held from 23 to 25 July 2023.
