TAR UMT stamped its mark of achievement in the 2023 Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Malaysia Inter-University Student Challenge by clinching Third place in the competition held on 3 November 2023.

TAR UMT team was represented by five students pursuing the Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics (Honours), namely Ng Wi Liam, Cheng Zhi Qin, Ashley Ling Yu Shu, Bee Jun Qi and Henry Woon Chi Feng.

The competition began back in June 2023 where the final leg of the competition concluded on 3 November 2023. Ten teams made it to the final stage where participants were required to produce a writeup and present their proposal about the challenges of construction waste management in Malaysia through Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and Construction 4.0 (IR 4.0).

The team from TAR UMT competed in the competition to get a better feel of going heads on with other students who are also studying construction management. “The experience is the first of its kind for us as we also had the opportunity to present in front of industry experts and professionals. It is one thing to gather our thoughts to come up with the best solutions related to what we are studying, and another ball game altogether when we are facing the panel of judges and also observing students from other institutions doing their presentations. Overall, it was a good experience for us,” Ashley Ling concluded.
