ACCA President Visits TAR University College

It was a great honour that the ACCA President, Mr Martin Turner, paid a visit to TAR University College on 23 October 2013 for a presentation ceremony that was held at the Auditorium of Bangunan Tun Tan Siew Sin.

The presentation ceremony was organised for the handover of a congratulatory token by ACCA to TAR University College to celebrate its upgrading to University College. Apart from that, two letters of exemptions were also presented to TAR University College in recognition of two Bachelor degree programmes offered by the University College. The first being the letter of exemption for the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) programme which highlights that students will be given exemptions from Papers F1 to F9 upon successful completion of Year 2 of the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) programme. During the ceremony, it was also highlighted that TAR University College is the one and only institution in the world that ACCA has approved to run the Internally Assessed ACCA Fundamentals (Skills Module) programme for all 9 Modules of the ACCA Fundamentals. The Internally Assessed programme is incorporated into the 3–year Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) programme. The second letter of exemption is for the Bachelor of Accounting (Honours) programme wherein it mentions this programme has been accredited by ACCA and is awarded maximum exemption from all 9 papers of the ACCA Fundamentals. The exemption granted by ACCA is a clear indication of the high level of standards and quality of the programmes offered by TAR University College.

The presentation was witnessed by high level officials from ACCA including Datin Alexandra Chin, ACCA Vice President, Datuk Khalid Ahmad, ACCA Council Member, Ms Jennifer Lopez, Country Head of ACCA Malaysia, Ms Rachel Chee, Regional Head of Education for ASEAN, ACCA, Mr Jeffrey Chew and Pn Hawazain Shaari, members of the ACCA Malaysia Advisory Committee and also TAR University College senior officials and staff.

In his address, Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok expressed his delight in the recognition given by ACCA to TAR University College. He said: “This strong institutional bond between TAR University College and ACCA can only be possible with the continued cooperation and support for each other by these two organisations. We value the contribution and role of ACCA in forging strategic alliances and developing initiatives with us to provide dynamic learning and training to our ACCA students. This long standing working relationship that spans more than four decades has built the confidence and trust between TAR University College and ACCA to achieve common educational goals and objectives.”

During the ceremony, Mr Martin Turner, ACCA President, also took the opportunity to deliver his lecture, entitled “Changes in the Global Economy and the Future of Accounting”. Mr Turner offered some very valuable words on the importance of an ethical profession and corporate reporting leadership to the students who were present that morning.
