TAR University College Hosts the 5th Technopreneurship & Innovation Symposium & Exhibition (TISE) 2013

TAR University College collaborated with Malaysian Scientific Association in hosting the 5th Technopreneurship & Innovation Symposium & Exhibition ('TISE') 2013 with the aim of encouraging technological innovation and entrepreneurial spirit among the students from the institutions of higher learning and young Malaysians.

The event, held on 6 - 7 October 2013, provided a platform for young inventors to showcase their inventions and get information on commercialising their creations from funding matters, incubation to patent and trademark. This is in line with the need to revitalise the economy from industrial to knowledge-driven through science and innovation.

The event was officially opened by YBhg Dato' Dr. Rosli Bin Mohamed, Secretary General of the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation ('MOSTI'). In his speech, Dato' Dr Rosli said that the year 2014 has been designated as the year of commercialisation and TISE would be one of the important element to address various issues and a better platform to help Malaysia to move forward. He added: "As of now, the current ratio of the scientific workforce to the total workforce in Malaysia is 58.2 per 10,000 people. We are looking at increasing the ratio to 70 in the near future to turn Malaysia into an innovation-driven nation".

TAR University College, being an ardent advocate of science and innovation, took the opportunity to get involved through hosting the event and encouraging students to showcase their work to the public. Students from the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Computing took part and exhibited their work. An Advanced Diploma in Information System Engineering Year 2 student, Tan Kok Seng, developed an app called MyMemory and showcased in the event. It is a location-based mobile app and cloud services that enable mobile users to record and share their memories related to a location. Another project being showcased was by Ko Sei Yin, an Advanced Diploma in Computer Science and Management Mathematics Year 2 student, named Healthy Meal Companion. It is a web-based system that is dedicated to enhancing people's lives by bringing nutritional menu and health analysis.

Ms Wee Hui Bieh, the Chairperson of the Technopreneurship & Innovation Committee, Malaysian Scientific Association as well as Managing Director of WENCOM Career Consultancy, in her welcoming speech, thanked TAR University College for working tirelessly for TISE. Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR University College, was also involved in TISE by being one of the panellists in the forum "University-Business Collaboration - Enhancing Competitiveness in Globalised World".
