TAR UC’s Diploma and Bachelor Degree Convocation

Although spread across 5 different sessions of the Diploma convocation and 1 session of the Bachelor Degree convocation, each session was nothing less than a celebration of resounding success by TAR UC students who graduated with a Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree from TAR UC. The convocation ceremonies which were held on 16, 23 and 24 July 2016 saw many family members and loved ones of the graduands congregating at the University College Hall to celebrate the important event in the lives of the students who graduated.

Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR UC, gave words of encouragement to the graduands during the convocation. “The scrolls you will be receiving today will take you to greater heights as it will provide opportunities for you to advance in your education and life. Go after your dreams and goals as with the qualification you have attained, it will open many more doors to lead you to what you can achieve in life. It is my hope that you will fully utilise the knowledge, skills and competencies you have acquired to the best of your abilities,” he said encouragingly in his opening speech.

A total of 57 students were awarded as book prize winners during the Diploma and Bachelor Degree convocation ceremonies. Among them is Dominique Fun Leet Shern who was also named as the recipient of the SAS Alumni Cup Winner. Graduated with a Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science, he shared some insights in achieving success in his studies. “I chose to study in TAR UC because I believe that this institution is the best choice for me to advance my studies in Sports and Exercise Science. Apart from this, as I am very passionate about Sports and Exercise Science, I was very dedicated in attending classes and I put in all my effort to do well in my examinations and assignments,” he explained.

Among the many who had graduated in these convocation sessions was an international student from Papua New Guinea named Noga Clayton Jeffery Viora who graduated with a Diploma in Business Studies (Accounting). “Although there were many choices for me to pursue my diploma in accounting, none of them can be compared to TAR UC’s Diploma in Accounting for the very fact that this Diploma paves the way for me to pursue my professional qualification in the near future. The lecturers are very committed to ensuring students understand the subject matter and they are a great source of motivation for students. I most definitely would recommend my friends back home to study in TAR UC because of the quality of education provided here,” he went on to explain.

Amidst the cheers and laughter, the graduates and guests also had their emotions stirred when Leong Hon Wai, a graduate with debilitating walking disability, made his way to the stage assisted by TAR UC staff to receive his scroll. Hon Wai, who graduated with a Bachelor of Creative Multimedia (Hons) in Multimedia Design, shared that his elder brother also studied at TAR UC and this influenced him to come to TAR UC as well. Now that he is already working as a multimedia web designer, he is thankful to his lecturers and friends for their guidance and support to help him achieve his dreams.
