Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR University College, was at the cheque presentation ceremony to present the cheques to the representatives of the beneficiaries together with Ms Karthiyani Shanmugam, Head of the Centre for Nation Building and Languages. At the cheque presentation ceremony, Datuk Dr Tan complimented the students for their efforts in successfully raising the funds for a meaningful cause. “Most of you would not see the actual people who will benefit from the money you raised but you were nevertheless enthusiastic, motivated, and went all out to do your part to make the lives of others better. Keep up the good work. The seeds of compassion and responsibility towards others have been sowed in your mind and it is my hope that you will continue to do your part in making this world a better place for others, especially later in your life when you have the means to do so”, Datuk Dr Tan highlighted.

The students invested a huge amount of time and effort in organising a variety of activities to raise funds which included the Sales Bazaar, Tote Bag Project, Talent Time, Games Carnival and Cheerleading performances. The students also visited some of the charity homes.

The representatives from the charity organisations who were present at the ceremony were amazed by the high level of commitment and compassion shown by the students. “I am very encouraged to see the dedication of our young people in caring for the needy and I hope all the students will continue nurturing this passion for community service,” Mr Sathiya Narayana, representative from the Community Adoption Programme, Matang Jaya, Sungai Buloh said. Mr Cheok Hoong Poh from Shelter Home was deeply grateful to receive the funds, which will be used to purchase education materials, food and clothing for the children in Shelter Home. Ms Koh Joo Fung from Rumah Charis commended further: “I am very impressed with the heartfelt dedication shown by the students especially when they came to visit Rumah Charis. They were very genuine and caring in their approach towards the children in the home which proves their dedication in helping the needy and less fortunate”.

A portion of the total funds collected was also used to purchase school bags and stationeries for the Orang Asli students which were presented to them on 1 January 2016, at their village in Perkampungan Orang Asli Gombak. The remaining balance will be used for other charity projects in March this year.
