Hearts for Hope fundraising campaign, organised by 55 Diploma in Public Relations students, won Bronze in the Student: Institutions of Higher Learning category, at the Malaysia Public Relations Awards (MPRA) 2025. Organised by the Public Relations and Communications Association of Malaysia (PRCA Malaysia), the award ceremony was held on 28 November 2025.

This award-winning fundraiser was held from 8–12 September 2025 at TAR UMT Kuala Lumpur Campus. The collective efforts of the students successfully raised RM17,626.18 to support Malaysian CARE’s Pusat Sumber Komuniti CARE (PSKC) at Taman Danau Kota Flats. The funds were essential to sustain its community centre operations, provide mental health counselling for the elderly, and establish a music corner for children equipped with ukuleles, an electronic piano, and kalimbas.

This achievement is significant for TAR UMT’s Faculty of Communication and Creative Industries (FCCI) as it marks the first MPRA win for its Diploma in Public Relations students, after the successes of its Bachelor of Public Relations (Hons) students in 2017 and 2018.

The team was represented at the awards ceremony by its vice chairperson Lucian Ang, PR department leader Ng Jia Suen, and campaign advisor Mr Beven Lau.

“Winning this award is an honour for the team and a strong reminder that students can create real impact when given the opportunity. This recognition inspires us to continue learning PR not only as an academic subject but as a platform for meaningful social change,” said Lucian Ang, leader of the PR department for the Hearts for Hope Campaign.

“This win highlights the transformative potential of experiential learning. Our students not only applied PR strategies effectively but also demonstrated genuine compassion beyond the classroom. Their achievement reflects TAR UMT’s commitment to nurturing industry-ready and socially responsible graduates,” said Mr Beven Lau, the campaign advisor.

“TAR UMT aims to guide students to become youths who go beyond the grasping of skillsets and learned know-how, to transform them into citizens who care for their community as well as being socially responsible grown-ups for the betterment of our world,” said FCCI PR programme leader Mr Chuan Tek Pheung.

The accomplishment reflects the unwavering commitment of both educators and students to deliver excellence, a true embodiment of TAR UMT’s tagline of Beyond Education, where learning traverses academic knowledge into real-world, practical community engagement.
