The Teaching and Learning Symposium 2019 held on 4 November 2019, could not have been more timely. The rapid changes and increased complexity in today’s IR4.0-driven world present new challenges and put new demands on our education system. As such, as part of the TAR UC endeavour to encourage and support integration of digital learning tools into classrooms, this symposium was organised.

In his opening address, Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC, said that the tools that can be used for delivery of content are now more varied. “The tools to enhance our teaching method has to change. Now, with the internet at the touch of a finger, the teacher is no longer the sole provider of information. Searching online for information has become the norm for students. We have to make use of technology to guide students so that they can better understand the subject you teach.”

During the symposium, a number of topics were touched on, such as “Using G Suite Creatively for Teaching” by Mr Lee Yik Sheng from Communication and Information Technology Centre (‘CITC’), “Introduction to Jamboard” by Dr Chu Yih Bing of Faculty of Engineering and Technology (‘FOET’), “Flipping Your Classroom Using Interactive Videos in a Blended Learning Environment” by Ms Himalah Mohan of Faculty of Social Science & Humanities (‘FSSH’), “Teaching Reform of Business Courses: E-Commerce & Logistics Via Interactive Whiteboard” by Ms Kashietaa Samba Sirvang & Mr Bryan Teoh Phern Chern of the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business (‘FAFB’) and finally, the “Introduction to Mendeley” by Dr Tan Hui Yin of the Faculty of Applied Sciences (‘FOAS’).

More than 140 lecturers from TAR UC were there to learn about the latest teaching and learning techniques.
