It was a historic moment for TAR UC when 60 students studying various disciplines and two staff members embarked on a 14-day study tour to Guizhou Institute of Technology (GIT), China, from 21 September to 4 October 2019.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, the study tour was meant to strengthen education innovation and academic exchanges and linkages between the two partner universities.

The students explored the 1,000-year-old heritage city of Guiyang, the capital city of Guizhou Province, learned about the 5,000-year-old Chinese civilisation, and established long-lasting friendships with their hosts.

GIT’s main campus is situated in the city of Guiyang, in inner Southwest China. Guiyang has a population of over 1.3 million people.

The study tour was held in conjunction with China’s Belt-Road Initiatives for talent cultivation of young people between countries in ASEAN and China, as part of the China-ASEAN Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Alliance.

The group from TAR UC managed to participate in many interesting activities in Guiyang, including a visit to Guizhou Big Data Exhibtion Centre, dumpling-making classes, calligraphy, paper-cutting and tea art classes, and outdoor activities. They also sampled local delicacies, and got to know the ethnic Miao culture through performances at a Miao village.

“The GIT study tour was really a priceless experience for me and I am really thankful that I can be part of it,” said Mable Foong, a student from the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business.
