The Canteen 1 that we know of has undergone extensive renovation to be what it is today. The canteen has been renamed as The Red Bricks Cafeteria. It has a fresh new look, a new coat of paint and to top it off, a new set of food outlets. The launch of The Red-Bricks Cafeteria took place on 10 December 2012 in the presence of the Principal, senior College officials, food vendors, staff and students.
All were enraptured by the new look; coloured ceiling, tables of different hues, clean and conducive ambience, tiled flooring and everything that makes it a comfortable eating place. The outlets there include, soon to be opened, "Marry Brown"- fast food, "Snowflake"- dessert, and those ready for business such as, "RT Pastry House"- pastry and bun, "Jin Taiwan"- Taiwanese delicacies, "Delica"- kaya ball and waffles, "Each-A-Cup"- bubble tea, "Kopitiam Lee Chin"- noodles, "Pustaka Al Armaien"- Malaysian food, "Kopitiam Wen Sheng"- economy rice and a stationery shop.
On that auspicious day, there was also a second launching, that of the RT Pastry House. The Principal and his cohort visited all the opened food outlets to talk to the vendors and to welcome them. Later, they were treated to plates of noodles, drinks and cakes from the various outlets, much to their delight.
While all that was going on, "Bob" the bear, a mascot for civic-mindedness of the BEAR-TAHAN Campaign, was there to ensure that students adhere to rules of proper conduct when buying food and eating it. Students had to clear left-overs on their plate into the bins and place their empty plates into another bin. The bins labelled, “Mixed Rice”, “Masakan Malaysia”, “Food Waste”, “Disposable & Plastic”, “Noodles” were lined up for all to see and use. As a reward for abiding the rules, Marry Brown gave each student a RM10 voucher.
