TAR UC Co-organises Annual Students Conference with MAICSA

About 400 students hailing from TAR UC as well as other tertiary education institutions such as Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Pusat Teknologi & Pengurusan Lanjutan College and Kolej Poly-Tech MARA attended The Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA) – TAR UC Students Conference held on 27 October 2018 at TAR UC Kuala Lumpur Main Campus. Assoc Prof Say Sok Kwan, Vice President of TAR UC, was the Guest-of-Honour and other distinguished guests who attended the opening ceremony of the conference included Assoc Prof Dr Ng Swee Chin, Vice President of TAR UC, Ms Rebecca Chan Chin Sieh, MAICSA Vice President, Mr Yeap Kok Leong, CEO and Managing Director of Tricor Services (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Akbar Moidunny, Chairman of Education Committee of MAICSA.

The conference is MAICSA’s annual event where every year the conference is co-organised with different institutes of higher learning. The title of this year’s conference was “Corporate Employability – Bridging the Skills Gap” and in her opening speech, Ms Rebecca Chan highlighted the objectives of the conference. “This year’s conference is to help students gain a better understanding of the employability skills required by industries, bridge the skills gap between business and corporate expectations and how students can construct and manage their employability as they enter the job market. In addition, students will also learn more about the ICSA qualification and how ICSA can help to advance their careers,” she said.

Assoc Prof Say Sok Kwan in her speech affirmed the conference participants on the relevance of the conference’s focus even at this time and age. “The title of this year’s conference is not new but it will remain relevant to TAR UC as an institution of higher learning and to MAICSA as a professional body of our responsibility and commitment to develop and enhance our students’ employability. On top of this, with the advancement in technology, knowledge is everywhere and all of you are privileged to have access to various sources of knowledge. However what is more important is for you to know how to tap into all these available knowledge to further develop your skills and employability. This is why it is important for you to ensure you learn as much as possible from conferences such as this,” she explained.

Mr Yeap Kok Leong in his keynote address shared a glimpse of what the conference participants could expect to learn from the other conference speakers. “Today’s conference will touch on three very important topics which are Chartered Secretaries in Leading Corporation, Communication Skills and How Employable Are You. All of you are very fortunate to learn from these speakers who will be sharing their knowledge and experience with you as they are known personalities in their fields of expertise. Therefore, it is only wise that you listen attentively to what is shared during the conference and take this opportunity to network with students from other institutions as well where you can share your thoughts and learn from them too,” he advised.

The other speakers for this year’s conference included Mrs YC Chan, Chief Executive of MAICSA, Puan Shareen Shariza Dato’ Abdul Ghani, Co-Founder and Director of Sorga Ventures Sdn Bhd, Ms Kay Wong DTM, Training Director of On On Learning Sdn Bhd and Assoc Prof Wong Hwa Kiong, Dean of the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business (FAFB), TAR UC. Meanwhile, there were many practitioners present as panelists in this conference and they were Ms Chua Siew Chuan FCIS, Managing Director of Securities Services (Holdings) Sdn Bhd, Mr Simon Yeoh Seng Leong FCIS, Executive Director of Ernst & Young Tax Consultants Sdn Bhd and Ms Wan Haslinda Wan Yusoff FCIS, Managing Director of MegaWan Sdn Bhd.
